Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are acid-fast bacilli (AFB) other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae, and are divided into rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) and slowly growing mycobacteria (SGM) based on their growth rate. They cause a wide range of infections, including cutaneous infections in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients. 1 Pulmonary NTM infections, the most frequent form of NTM infections, are increasing globally, 2 and cutaneous NTM infections have also increased nearly three-fold in 30 years since 1980 in Olmsted County, Minnesota. 3 There is also a report suggesting that the incidence of
