A case of acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis that developed posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome

Abstract: A 10-year male patient presented with swelling in the face, legs and scrotal area which developed 8 days after tonsillitis treatment. Acute post-sterotococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN) was considered in the patient whose urinalysis revealed hematuria and proteinuria at nephrotic level, whose urea, creatinine, lipid profile and anti-streptolysine O antibody levels were increased, albumin and C3 value were decreased and whose 24-hour urine test revealed proteinuria. Renal biopsy was found to be compatible with … Show more

“…1,2 However, in our case, acute but moderate rises in BP, which does not exceed the threshold of cerebrovascular autoregulation mechanisms, has also been reported to cause PRES. 11 Convulsive and nonconvulsive seizures are common clinical presentations of PRES. The associated EEG patterns are quite variable and include focal or diffuse slowing, focal or diffuse epileptiform activity, periodic discharges, and encephalopathy.…”

“…CGN is also called chronic nephritis and can be described as albuminuria, hematuresis, hypertension, and edema with a slowly developing decline in renal function (Kasap et al, 2014). The development of CGN varies, and the disease is refractory with slow and hidden onset.…”
