A case analysis of semantic technologies for R&D intermediation information management

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIt is evident that companies and research centres can find a myriad of instruments to fund their R&D (Research & Development) activities. Due to the dynamics of the information management in these circumstances there is a need for intermediary businesses intervention. Consequently, intermediary companies are thus involved in a complex process that needs to be managed and controlled. Within this scenario an Information Technology (IT) platform, named RDi-Advise, was developed by EgeoIT using sema… Show more

“…These challenges of informed decisions on policy issues underscored the need to rationalize various sources, sets and levels of data that are available to policy makers in various domains. EgeoIT's RDi-Advise kind of tools [38] that are developed for R & D intermediation information management using semantic technologies can be considered as a pilot study tool for the selection of 'quango' model partnership evaluation too.…”

“…It provides a programmatic environment for RDF, RDFS and OWL, SPARQL and includes a rule-based inference engine. Both ontology schemas and its populated instances are stored in theKAON2ontology repository, an infrastructure for managing OWL-DL ontologies [38]. The reasoning is obtained because of the vocabulary relationship expressed in the form of a parent-child relationship and also based on transitive dependency relationship.…”

“…At the same time, enterprises can timely feed back market information to universities and research institutes who can have timely access to a wealth of practical information and experience, and enhance the targeted purpose discipline construction and professional development [8]. Then experts and professors of universities and research institutes can not only concentrate on research and development according to market demand, can also participate in the whole process of technological innovation including the new products and new technology's idea, project, research and development, batch test and marketing.…”
