A Cascading Failure Model for Command and Control Networks with Hierarchy Structure

Abstract: Cascading failures in the command and control networks (C2 networks) could substantially affect the network invulnerability to some extent. In particular, without considering the characteristics of hierarchy structure, it is quite misleading to employ the existing cascading failure models and effectively analyze the invulnerability of C2 networks. Therefore, a novel cascading failure model for command and control networks with hierarchy structure is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a method of defining the nod… Show more

“…However, nodes in the upper layers may not necessarily have larger degrees, and nodes in the lower layers may not necessarily have smaller degrees. Therefore, referring to the initial load definition method based on the hierarchical degree of literature [32], and the initial load on the nodes of the two-layer interdependent C2N based on the node degree and node hierarchy were defined as follows:…”

“…At the same time, given the influence of a military organizational structure, command entities have strict subordinate command relationships in a command and control system. e relationships between the higher and lower entities in a command organization are characterized by a hierarchical topological structure in the command and control network [48]. e heterogeneity of the nodes indicates that there are relatively influential nodes in a command and control network, which must be protected to enhance the invulnerability of the network.…”

“…Long distance load redistribution strategy costs too much in practical application and has high time complexity in computation. Recently, some scholars [19] pay attention to the application of load capacity model in information warfare and propose a cascading failures model for command and control networks with hierarchy structure.…”
