A carboxylic acid functionalized SBA-15 supported Pd nanocatalyst: an efficient catalyst for hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline in water

Abstract: The catalytic performance of a PdNPs/SBA-COOH has been investigated for the first time in the selective hydrogenation of nitrobenzene with hydrous hydrazine at RT in water medium.

“…Therefore, a controllable synthesis of highly reactive and stable metal–metal oxide hybrid nanocatalysts is necessary. On the other hand, relative to Al 2 O 3 and SiO 2 , ordered mesoporous materials, such as SBA-15, , MCM-41, and KIT-6, were widely employed as a catalyst support to obtain highly dispersed and structurally stable nanocatalysts due to their thermal stability, large surface area, larger pore size, and uniform mesoporous channels …”

“…23 Therefore, a controllable synthesis of highly reactive and stable metal−metal oxide hybrid nanocatalysts is necessary. On the other hand, relative to Al 2 O 3 and SiO 2 , ordered mesoporous materials, such as SBA-15, 25,26 MCM-41, 27 and KIT-6, 28 were widely employed as a catalyst support to obtain highly dispersed and structurally stable nanocatalysts due to their thermal stability, large surface area, larger pore size, and uniform mesoporous channels. 29 Based on the above description, to achieve a good catalyst with desirable activity, selectivity, and stability in the hydrogenation of substituted nitroaromatics, here, we attempted to embed Ir-MO x (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) hybrid nanostructures into the mesopores of SBA-15, which have been widely used to confine metal NPs.…”

“…Ganji and colleagues investigated for the first time a carboxylic acid functionalized SBA-15 derived Pd nanocatalyst towards the selective catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene in water medium [47]. The synthesis of SBA-15 and SBA-COOH followed reported procedures [48,49] and the preparation of Pd/SBA-COOH catalyst was achieved through dispersion of SBA-COOH in a palladium acetate solution followed by reduction with NaBH 4 .…”

“…To address these issues, the strategy of heterogenization of homogeneous catalytically active moieties over an inorganic solid support has been employed by different scientific communities. This has been accomplished by immobilizing these catalytically active moieties over a variety of solid support materials such as cSiO 2 , multiwalled carbon nanotubes, graphene oxide (GO), metal–organic frameworks, SBA-15, Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 , and so on. Among these, graphene/GO-derived nanocomposites have been come out as new star materials in the nanomaterial assisted catalysis. , …”
