A broadband seismic metamaterial plate with simple structure and easy realization

Abstract: A novel seismic metamaterial plate consisting of two common building materials, which has the advantages of simple structure and easy to realize, is proposed. The seismic metamaterial plate creates a wide bandgap with a relative bandwidth of 1. Using numerical simulation, the bandgap properties of the metamaterial plate both in a free space and on a half space are studied and it is found that the wide bandgap of the free plate is kept even if in half space. Using scaled (1:30) experiments under 1 g conditions … Show more

“…In recent years, significant research has introduced the local resonance mechanism in the construction of SMs. [6][7][8]14,[21][22][23][24][25][26][27][30][31][32][33][34][35][36]38,39,41,[47][48][49]55,56,61,62,64] The local resonance bandgap is the result of coupling between the long traveling wave property and the resonance characteristic of the periodic local oscillator in the matrix. The existence of coupling is the key factor to determine whether the bandgap is generated.…”

“…[48] Zeng et al pointed out in the scaled experiments of the SM plate composed of steel blocks wrapped by foam, that, due to local resonance, even if one row of SMs was arranged, the attenuation of surface waves within the expected frequency range was very obvious. [49]…”
