A broadband ASE light source-based full-duplex FTTX/ROF transport system

Abstract: A full-duplex fiber-to-the-X (FTTX)/radio-over-fiber (ROF) transport system based on a broadband amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) light source is proposed and demonstrated for rural wide-spread villages. Combining the concepts of long-transmission transmission and ring topology, a long-haul single-mode fiber (SMF) trunk is sharing with multiple rural villages. Externally modulated baseband (BB) (1.25 Gbps) and radio-frequency (RF) (622 Mbps/10 GHz) signals are successfully transmitted simultaneously. Good … Show more

“…Given that the 24.5 GHz is located at the resonance peak, the drop in the middle frequencies will not affect the transmission performances. Since the transmission rate is times the bandwidth 29,30 , yet a 128 Gb/s fibre-FSO integration [24.5 ×× 2 (VSB-PAM4 modulation) × 2 (PDM operation) > 128] can be satisfactorily implemented.
Figure 1( a ) P–I curve of the 1.55-μm VCSEL with a threshold current of 2.3 mA and a slope of around 26 mW/mA. ( b ) The modulation responses of the free-running VCSEL under different driving currents and the modulation response of the VCSEL with an injection locking scheme.

“…Spectrum slicing is a feasible technique by which narrow wavelengths are filtered from a BLS and externally modulated to deliver optical signals. It is attractive because it avoids the need of multiple distributed feedback (DFB) laser diodes (LDs) with selected wavelengths [11]. Fig.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5] Radio over fiber (RoF) system plays an important role in providing stable wire services and maneuverable wireless connections. [6][7][8][9] At present, millimeter-wave RoF link can directly cover the current optical and wireless networks for the access network fusing 5G. 10,11 Therefore, the integration of RoF system and PON has become an appealing candidate for realizing highspeed and high-capacity communication networks.…”
