A brief review of magnetic anomaly detection

Abstract: The geomagnetic field is the main magnetic field on the surface of the Earth, and its value is generally much larger than that of ferromagnetic objects. The existence of a geomagnetic field makes the ferromagnetic material magnetized, and the magnetized field will make the local total magnetic field abnormal, so it is called an anomalous magnetic field. This unusual magnetic field is a necessary condition for conducting magnetic anomaly detection (MAD). MAD is a widely used passive method for magnetic target d… Show more

“…We briefly mention a novel proposal for a detection strategy, although it is unlikely to compete against other established bounds unless undertaken at great scale. Magnetic anomaly detectors (MADs) [82] offer another interesting method to search for passing magnetically charged particles like QMBs that has not been previously considered in literature to our knowledge. The advantage of such detectors is that they are commercially available, compact, and work at room temperature.…”

“…A magnetic anomaly detector (MAD) is an instrument often used by the military to detect underwater vehicles. 17,18 This is because a ferromagnetic material creates a magnetic field disturbance. 19 Similarly, this technique could be used to detect the small magnetic anomalies created by ferromagnetic ROVs and UUVs.…”

“…At present, the detection methods of magnetic anomaly signals can be roughly divided into two categories [3]. One is based on the prior characteristics of magnetic targets, mainly including various improved OBF detection algorithms.…”
