A Bio-Inspired Gateway Selection Scheme for Hybrid Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: The gateway selection is an essential issue in hybrid mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Current independent and random selections without supporting routing negotiation protocol may cause links or gateways overloaded when they are selected by multiple nodes simultaneously. Therefore, the network performance may not be in a proper way. Furthermore, the ad hoc nature of MANETs makes the topology change dynamically, so that the gateway selection becomes even more difficult. This paper presents a mathematical model… Show more

“…The simulation is achieved by using online libraries and by re-using code, modifying the AODV member functions. The modified code allows the AODV to carry the trust information (refer [38,39]). NS2 script is used to build the network scenario and CBR is used as a traffic generator.…”

“…In [14], the authors proposed a schema to select an Internet gateway for communication between MANET and Internet. The solution allows an Internet gateway selection based on the network status.…”

“…These wireless devices are capable of making connections between themselves when they are capable to listen to one-another. This type of network is called an Ad Hoc Network [1]. MANET is a type of wireless ad hoc network.…”

“…Because of multi-hop nature nodes often act not only as hosts but also as routers. In a multi-hop network one or more intermediate nodes are possible to connect in a route between source and destination [1]- [3]. This opportunistic nature of MANET made attention to use on military and rescue agencies particularly under disorganized or hostile environments where services of infrastructure networks are unavailable because of disaster situations [2].…”
