A Bifunctional Luminescent Metal–Organic Framework for the Sensing of Paraquat and Fe3+ Ions in Water

Abstract: The hydrothermalr eactiono fZ n 2+ + ions with a mixture of two ligands, Hcptpya nd H 3 btc (Hcptpy = 4-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,2':4',4''-terpyridine; H 3 btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid), led to the formationo fa3D metal-organic framework (MOF) with 1D channels, [Zn 2 (cptpy)(btc)(H 2 O)] n (1), which was structurally characterized by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD). In MOF 1,t wo independentZ n 2+ + ions were interconnected by btc 3À ligands to form a1 D chain, whilst adjacent Zn 2+ + ions we… Show more

“…LMOF (41) mentioned in our earlier readings also had the ability for selective and sensitive sensing of Fe 3+ cations in water. The sensing ability of LMOF (41) is well supported by an energy transfer phenomenon between the donor and accepter with quenching constant 3.08 × 10 3 M −1 and LOD value 4.33 × 10 −6 M 91. Multiresponsive LCPs(42) and (43) also demonstrated excellent fluorescence quenching properties towards chromate anions with K sv values 6.6 × 10 4 , 5.3 × 10 4 M −1 and LOD values 7.00 × 10 −8 , 7.00 × 10 −8 M respectively 92.…”

“…For the MOFs with sensing-based applications, [18][19][20] lanthanide MOFs (Ln-MOFs) have displayed excellent luminescence properties that can be taken into consideration. 21,22 Through the reasonable adjustment of the host-guest interactions, Ln-MOFs have been applied in the chemical sensing of ions, [23][24][25] organic small molecules, 26,27 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) 28 and gases, [29][30][31] nitro explosives, [32][33][34] biomolecules 35,36 and so on.…”

“…The K SV value of Tb-MOF is 4.74 × 10 5 M −1 . The K SV value is higher than that of most MOF-based ion sensing materials (usually 10 3 -10 4 M −1 ), indicating a high sensitivity of Tb-MOF towards nitrite [23][24][25]. The results of the three sets of fluorescence titrations (Fig.S6-S11 †) were combined in Fig.…”

“…During the past few decades, as a kind of hybrid materials, the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have obtained wide exploration interest because of their extensive applications prospects in the heterogeneous catalysis, luminescence, nonlinear optics, gas storage/separation areas [3][4][5][6]. Up to now, various synthetic strategies have been developed to fabricate crystalline MOFs, e.g., mixed-ligand method, template-directed synthesis, pillar-layered strategy, second building unit method [7][8][9][10].…”
