A Bibliometric and Visual Analysis of Environmental Behavior Research

Abstract: Environmental behavior has become one of the most important research areas in the field of sustainable development in recent years. Based on 818 papers on environmental behavior in the Web of Science database from 2002 to 2020, this paper uses CiteSpace software to analyze the trends in publication, subject categories, influential authors and journals, countries, and institutional collaborations. The results show that environmental behavior research has steadily increased over the past 19 years and has gradual… Show more

“…Science Mapping aims to discover the structure and dynamics of a scientific field, focusing on the topics associated with a specific line of research and their evolution [66]. It was based on the analysis of the manuscripts that compose the sample and, in this study, was conducted with the support of the more suitable software for the analysis at an aggregate level: VOSViewer [67]. Bibliometric analysis is firmly established as a scientific specialty and is an integral part of research evaluation methodology, especially within the scientific and applied fields [68].…”

“…This map arranges terms by occurrences and allows exploration, cluster by cluster, of the terms and interpretation of the related common themes. Specifically, the interpretation of common themes is conducted on the basis of the researchers' knowledge and experience, that, fostered by the software capabilities, permits carefully obtaining results and finding answers to the research questions, as defined in the Methodology section [67]. Thus, in order to individuate (i) the main research routes in sustainable food supply chain, (ii) the main supply chain models studied in association with sustainability and (iii) the effort made by the academia in analysing the several sustainability dimensions, each cluster was analysed.…”

“…The function of this software is the visual analysis of the literature, which analyzes a large volume of sample data with superior graphical analysis and presentation capabilities (Sandeep-Kumar et al, 2021). CiteSpace and VOSviewer, as visualization software for mapping scientific knowledge, have been utilized extensively in scientific research worldwide (Wang and Lv, 2021;Zhu et al, 2021).…”

“…Based on the visualization of keywords, bursts of the results can be analyzed. Bursts represent terms that occur multiple times or is used actively in a relatively short period of time (Zhu et al, 2021) The first trending topic is cost, many researchers focused on the cost of human behavior on agricultural ecosystem services. Based on the burst and keyword frequency, it can be inferred that from 2014 to 2016, research on the cost and valuation of ecosystem services were in trend.…”
