This paper presents a bibliometric analysis focused on the research domain of school dropout. Over the course of time, nations across the globe have come to acknowledge the significance of this phenomenon and have made concerted efforts to gain deeper insights into it, with the aim of mitigating the associated risks. Consequently, it has become evident that the origins of this phenomenon can be traced back to a child's formative years, and, once identified, it can be ameliorated through the implementation of an array of mitigation strategies. Therefore, the principal objective of this paper is to navigate the body of work published in connection with the school dropout phenomenon, shedding light on the research community's interest in this subject. Our investigation was inaugurated by assembling a comprehensive dataset encompassing 1,592 papers sourced from the ISI Web of Science database, spanning the years from 1976 to 2022. Notably, the research community has exhibited a significant level of engagement with this research area, as evidenced by a robust annual growth rate of 11.14%. To uncover emerging research trajectories, we conducted an exhaustive examination of keyword usage. Moreover, we delved into the intricate web of collaborative relationships among authors, identifying the most prolific contributors to this field. Furthermore, we conducted a meticulous analysis of the most salient papers within this domain, and, for enhanced elucidation, we have presented a review of the top-10 most cited works, thereby spotlighting the prevailing research directions that have captured the attention of scholars hailing from diverse corners of the world. The results of our analysis reveal a burgeoning global interest in the school dropout phenomenon over time.

La deserción en la educación superior genera consecuencias económicas sociales significativas. Además, la investigación en el campo de la educación ha experimentado un crecimiento exponencial durante este tiempo. Este artículo emplea un enfoque bibliométrico, por lo que se utilizan los softwares VOSviewer y Biblioshiny para poder analizar 340 artículos de la base de datos Web of Science (WoS) (2013-2023) relacionados con la deserción y la salud mental en la educación superior. Se aplicaron diversos métodos como análisis de citas, acoplamiento bibliográfico y análisis de conglomerados, además de diagrama de tres campos. Los resultados revelaron un aumento en la investigación sobre la salud mental de los estudiantes en relación con la deserción en la educación superior, especialmente, en el periodo de 2020 a 2022. Algunos autores son categorizados como escritores productivos sobre este tema y la mayoría de ellos son de Estados Unidos. Este estudio contribuye a sintetizar temas clave relacionados con la deserción en la educación superior y la salud mental, además de señalar nuevas direcciones para investigaciones posteriores. Estos hallazgos son cruciales para las instituciones de educación superior y las políticas educativas, pues contribuyen a enfatizar la importancia de abordar la salud mental de los estudiantes como un factor crítico en la retención estudiantil, y construir relaciones sociales fuertes y estables.

Anxiety and school fears are relatively frequent in childhood. Psychology and education professionals need to have assessment instruments for screening for school anxiety in schools. This study aimed to develop, adapt, and examine the reliability and validity evidence of the School Anxiety Inventory for Primary Education (SAI‐PE) scores. Using random cluster sampling, a sample of 843 Spanish students (51.7% girls), ages ranging from 8 to 12 years (M = 10.03, SD = 1.25), was selected from public and concerted schools. The content validity of the SAI‐PE scores was analyzed through experts' judgment and students' assessment of their comprehension of the instrument's items. Exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyses support the validity of the SAI‐PE scores. The results revealed a multifactorial structure for the scores of anxiety reactions (cognitive, psychophysiological, and behavioral) and school situations scores (school punishment, victimization, social, and academic evaluation). The study conclusions reinforce the importance of having instruments that assess the complexity of emotional responses such as school anxiety, favoring its early detection and evaluating the effectiveness of preventive and/or therapeutic programs in schools.
