Research Trends in Pavement Management during the First Years of the 21st Century: A Bibliometric Analysis during the 2000–2013 Period

A bibliometric analysis based on Scopus database was carried out to identify the global research trends related to pavement management area from 2000 to 2013, and to improve the understanding of the research topics in that period. The results reveal two stable periods of annual publications, from 2000 to 2002 with an average rate of 27, and from 2003 to 2010 with a value of 51; and a period with an increasing production rate of 20 publications per year after 2010. According to the document-type distribution, articles and conference papers have almost the same contribution. The most productive country was the United States, followed by Canada and China. The research trend in the field of pavement management could be grouped into three main areas. The first one is related to pavement management systems, which attracted the greatest attention, especially optimization processes with various objectives and lifecycle cost analysis. The second group is about pavement performance modeling, where calibration of mechanical empirical models was largely developed. Lastly, data collection had also occupied several papers, mainly about cracking classification. Sustainability aspects in pavement management became an emergent issue. The trending issues in that period, in these categories, were summarized in the paper.

Abstract:Researchers are nowadays overloaded with scientific information, and it is often difficult to obtain a clear overview of existing topical research in some particular field. Big data tools and instruments can be utilized to define trending research topics by analyzing recent publications. This paper analyses 12000 articles related to arc welding from the Scopus database for the period 2001-2012 using VOS viewer and Microsoft Excel. The most commonly occurring keywords are presented statically and as a time series. The results of this paper provide an overall landscape of scientific research in the field of arc welding and help indicate trends of emerging topics in welding research. This work is of value to both industry and academia as an indicator of changes in the field and areas of current interest. Some guidelines for potential future research on the subject are provided.

Abstract:Coal is the most important fossil energy used in China. The environmental impact of trace elements released in coal combustion has become one of the hottest issues in recent years. Based on a software named CiteSpace, and social network analysis (SNA), a bibliometric analysis of research into trace elements in coal and ash field during 1971-2017 is presented with the information of authors, countries, institutions, journals, hot issues and research trends in the present study. (6) The enrichment origin and modes of occurrence of trace elements are the mainstream research related to trace elements in coal and ash. The environmental problems caused by coal combustion have promoted the development of trace elements in coal research, and human health is getting more and more popular in recent years. The study findings provide a better understanding of features of trace elements in coal and ash research, which could be taken as a reference for future studies in this field.
