Background: Ultrasound-triggered sonodynamic therapy (SDT), as a non-invasive approach, has attracted considerable attention in a wide variety of malignant tumors and other diseases. Over the past 2 decades, the number of scientific publications on SDT has increased rapidly. However, there is still a lack of one comprehensive report that summarizes the global research trends and knowledge landscapes in the field of SDT in detail. Thus, we performed a bibliometric analysis on SDT from 2000 to 2021 to track the current hotspots and highlight future directions.Methods: We collected publications on SDT research from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The annual number of publications and citations, major contributors, popular journals, international collaborations, co-cited references and co-occurrence keywords were analyzed and visualized with CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R-bibliometrix.Results: A total of 701 publications were included. The annual publication output increased from 5 in 2000 to 175 in 2021, and the average growth rate was 18.4%. China was the most productive country with 463 documents (66.05%), and Harbin Medical University was the most prolific institution (N = 73). Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology published the most papers related to SDT. Materials Science, and Chemistry were the research areas receiving the most interest. All the keywords were divided into four different clusters including studies on mechanisms, studies on drug delivery and nanoparticles, studies on cancer therapy, as well as studies on ultrasound and sonosensitizers. In addition to nanomaterials-related studies including nanoparticles, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, nanosheets, liposomes, microbubble and TiO2 nanoparticle, the following research directions such as immunogenic cell death, metal-organic framework, photothermal therapy, hypoxia, tumor microenvironment, chemodynamic therapy, combination therapy, tumor resistance, intensity focused ultrasound, drug delivery, and Staphylococcus aureus also deserve further attention and may continue to explode in the future.Conclusion: SDT has a bright future in the field of cancer treatment, and nanomaterials have increasingly influenced the SDT field with the development of nano-technology. Overall, this comprehensive bibliometric study was the first attempt to analyze the field of SDT, which could provide valuable references for later researchers to better understand the global research trends, hotspots and frontiers in this domain.

Idiopathic pulmonary hypertension (IPAH) is a condition that affects various tissues and organs and the metabolic and inflammatory systems. The most prevalent metabolic condition is metabolic syndrome (MS), which involves insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and obesity. There may be a connection between IPAH and MS, based on a plethora of studies, although the underlying pathogenesis remains unclear. Through various bioinformatics analyses and machine learning algorithms, we identified 11 immune- and metabolism-related potential diagnostic genes (EVI5L, RNASE2, PARP10, TMEM131, TNFRSF1B, BSDC1, ACOT2, SAC3D1, SLA2, P4HB, and PHF1) for the diagnosis of IPAH and MS, and we herein supply a nomogram for the diagnosis of IPAH in MS patients. Additionally, we discovered IPAH's aberrant immune cells and discuss them here.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has created enormous medical and economic burdens on human society. However, the co-existence of COVID-19 and diseases in tropical regions is not taken seriously. To improve the understanding of the current status and trends on crosstalk of COVID-19 and tropical diseases, this paper provided an analysis, from a bibliometric perspective, of the COVID-19-related publications in ″Tropical Medicine″-entitled journals. Methods: We used Clarivate Analytics and VOSviewer to analyze 783 publications in seven ″ Tropical Medicine″-entitled journals. Document overview, basic bibliometric characteristics, citation performance, co-authorship, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and co-occurrence of keywords and terms were summarized in this article. Results: Document overview revealed that 76.12% of the related publications were published in open access mode, and basic bibliometric characteristics indicated that the year 2021 was the peak of the number of publications, the documents in the seven journals were unevenly distributed, and ″ article″ was the main publication type. The citation performance analysis elucidated that the documents of interest were frequently cited. The co-authorship analysis showed cooperation networks on the level of region, organization and author. General knowledge of COVID-19 was the overlap of co-citation and bibliographic coupling behavior. Finally, the co-occurrence of keywords and terms revealed the current and emerging hotspots. Conclusions: The main current research focuses in ″Tropical Medicine″-entitled journals are the clinical features of COVID-19 patients, and the emerging trends are the hesitancy in making vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 and the circumstance where COVID-19 coexisted with tropical diseases. In summary, this bibliometric analysis of COVID-19-related studies in seven ″Tropical Medicine″-entitled journals highlights the current research focuses of this field to inspire future studies.
