A Bibliometric Analysis and Benchmark of Machine Learning and AutoML in Crash Severity Prediction: The Case Study of Three Colombian Cities

Abstract: Traffic accidents are of worldwide concern, as they are one of the leading causes of death globally. One policy designed to cope with them is the design and deployment of road safety systems. These aim to predict crashes based on historical records, provided by new Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, to enhance traffic flow management and promote safer roads. Increasing data availability has helped machine learning (ML) to address the prediction of crashes and their severity. The literature reports numerous… Show more

“…The output is particularly obtained through thresholding a linear function regarding the input: the Perceptron's parameters are the coefficients of the linear function. Gauss distributions [30] are used to express the likelihoods regarding the features that have been conditioned on classes, a common technique for handling continuous attributes in NB classification. As a result, a Gaussian probability density function (PDF) is used to define each property as in (3):…”

“…Many works in the machine learning literature have used bibliometric techniques [19], public health [20], and autoML in cash severity prediction [21]. However, there are limited studies on the clustering approach's bibliometric analysis of class imbalance problems.…”

“…The symbol represents that the study has addressed the field of research to which it refers. The field of Highway Safety has different studies standing out: Angarita-Zapata et al [77] present a bibliometric and experimental analysis of the use of machine learning (ML) and automated machine learning (AutoML) in predicting the severity of traffic accidents. Haghani et al [78] found trends in traffic accidents.…”
