A bearing fault model for Independent Cart Conveyor System and its validation

Abstract: Independent Cart Conveyor System is one of the most promising technology in automation industries. It combines the benefits of servo motors with the advantages of linear motors. It consists of a close path made up of modular linear motors having a curved or a straight shape that control a fleet of carts independently. Each cart is placed along the motors and it is connected, through rolling bearings, to a rail set on the motors themselves. The bearings are subject to wear and the condition monitoring of these … Show more

“…We analyze two datasets corresponding to vibration signals from a crushing machine and acoustic signal from belt conveyor idlers, which may be considered as bases for the identification of local damage in rolling element bearing. There are many approaches for fault modeling in bearings [66,67]. For simplicity, it is assumed that a signal containing information about damage is a sum of deterministic periodic function (local impulses) and random noise.…”

“…As seen in Equation ( 14), the variation of the inductance matrix with position is also a term in Equation (14). Introducing Equations ( 12)-( 14) into Equation (10), the voltage equation of the motor is rewritten as in Equation (15).…”

“…Due to the presence of uncoupled semi-open domain magnetic fields in the primary WS-PMLSM and smooth cross-sectional crossings between the primary segments, these special phenomena make the characteristics of inductance in the WS-PMLSM different from the conventional primary continuous PMLSM. Therefore, it is very important to study the inductance variation law in its motion range and obtain an accurate inductance model, which is the only way to ensure high-speed motion and high-precision positioning, such as the XTS transmission system developed by Beckhoff [15] with a maximum speed of 4 m/s and repetitive positioning accuracy of less than 10 um.…”

“…Despite the tough design of both rails and carts, the bottle neck is the presence of rolling bearings between the cart and the rail. The number of bearings for each cart depends on the specific cart used and can include bearings with different sizes [7]. In the next section, critical issues about condition monitoring are detailed.…”
