A 7-year Follow-up of 93 Immediately Loaded Titanium Dental Implants

Abstract: Recently, several experimental and clinical investigations found that immediately loaded implants obtained satisfactory levels of osseointegration with high success percentages. Only a few long-term studies of immediately loaded implants have been reported in the literature. The aim of this study was a 7-year clinical and radiographic follow-up of 93 immediately loaded dental implants in human patients. Eleven patients were consecutively enrolled in this study. A total of 7 full and 9 partial edentulous arches… Show more

“…The process is divided into early and late events: early failure occurs before implant load, and late failure takes place after the implant has received occlusal load (Esposito et al, 1999). Early failures have been related to smoking (Ganeles and Wismeijer, 2004), aging (Moy et al, 2005), systemic diseases (Quirynen and Teughels, 2003;Weyant and Burt, 1993), bone quantity and quality (Degidi and Piattelli, 2005;Rosenberg et al, 2004;Stanford, 2003), surgical trauma (Gruica et al, 2004), and contamination during surgical procedure (Kuttenberger et al, 2005;van Steenberghe et al, 1990). Late failures have been related to peri-implantitis (Rosenberg et al, 2004), and occlusal overload (Misch et al, 2004).…”

“…2,3 IL may be described as functional loading (With occlusal contacts) immediately after implantation (or within 3-4 days after surgery) without waiting for the healing period. 4,5,6 IL has gained popularity due to less tissue trauma, reduced overall treatment time, decreased patient's anxiety and discomfort, high patient acceptance and better function and aesthetics. 7,8 According to the original Brånemark protocol, dental implants, regardless of their design or system, required an undisturbed healing period of three months in mandible and six months in maxilla.…”
