A 200–240 GHz Sub-Harmonic Mixer Based on Half-Subdivision and Half-Global Design Method

Abstract: For the terahertz harmonic mixer, a design model based on Half-Subdivision and Half-Global Design Method (HS-HGDM) with a single functional unit is proposed. The single functional unit circuit of the mixer, such as LO or IF Low Pass Filter (LPF), is designed by Subdivision Design Method (SDM), and the rest circuits of the mixer are designed by Global Design Method (GDM). The harmonic mixer based on this model is characterized by simple circuit structure, low conversion loss, small circuit size and high stabili… Show more

“…The measured data indicates the DSB noise temperature is below 1100 K for the 340 GHz mixer from 330 to 350 GHz and 800 K for the 250 GHz mixer from 240 to 260 GHz and the average DSB conversion loss is 7 dB (antenna loss included for all measured results). It should be noted that the SHM in this paper holds comparable performance compared with the best-published results, [8][9][10][11][12] which are listed in Table 1.…”

“…Here, the intrinsic diode represents a non-linear term and the 3D EM file represents a linear parasitic term, separately. To separate the linear and non-linear parts for behaviour modelling of AP-SBDs, the internal port-assignment method has been introduced in several studies [1][2][3][4]. These techniques include single port-assignment method with a micro-coaxial probe as illustrated in Figure 2a, which was proposed by Hesler in 1996 [4], and has been used as an ideal solution in the terahertz region.…”

“…The Global Design Method (GDM) [33] deconstructs the entire circuit into a series of variables that can be optimized, increasing the degree of freedom for optimization but also the computational load, requiring substantial system resources. The Half-Global Design Method (HGDM) [34] merges these strategies, balancing computational load with optimization exibility. However, regardless of how 3D-EM is segmented into units in these mentioned design methods, the nal simulation optimization still occurs within harmonic balance simulation software, thus the simulation speed is constrained by the speed of harmonic balance simulations.…”
