A 1D Compression Model for Loess Based on Disturbed State Concept

Abstract: Despite being insufficiently compacted, the loess structure can withstand a huge load like the super solid. This paper attempts to disclose how water content affects the bonding and arrangement of loess particles, and how it disturbs the loess structure. For this purpose, five confined compression tests are designed for intact loess and remolded loess of different water contents. Specifically, the disturbance function was defined with void ratio as the parameter based on the disturbed state concept (DSC) theor… Show more

“…e disturbed state concept (DSC) is a constitutive simulation method developed by Desai in 1974. e development of the DSC was based on the mechanical disturbance of materials [15,16,21,22]. According to this concept, a disturbance of material microstructure can inevitably trigger a change in its macroscopic mechanical properties.…”

“…e disturbed state theory was proposed by Desai in 1974, who also established an elastic-plastic model for clay [15][16][17][18][19]. Xu [20][21][22] investigated the mechanical properties of structural loess in Xi'an and proposed a one-dimensional disturbance function. e evolution law of the one-dimensional disturbance function was analyzed, and a disturbance constitutive model for structural loess was also developed.…”
