A 16‐Year‐Old Girl With Invasive Carcinoma Of The Vulva

Abstract: We present a 16-year-old girl with vulvar squamous cell carcinoma. The patient initially received a radical treatment because of lymph-node dissemination. However, recurrent disease erupted a little more than one year after the initial treatment, with metastases in the right lung and multiple osteolytic skeletal metastases. Despite aggressive treatments with chemotherapy the patient died about 2 years after the initial diagnosis. An aggressive radical treatment must be chosen for cases of invasive vulvar carci… Show more

“…Scanty literature is available about the use of chemotherapy as palliative treatment for patients with metastatic squamous cell vulvar carcinoma, and the results are disappointing [136,[138][139][140][141][142][143]. No specifically designed study has been conducted for these patients, that are usually treated with the same combination of 5-FU + CDDP used for the concomitant chemoradiation or with other regimens adopted for squamous cell cervical cancer or with BLEO-and MTXbased chemotherapy.…”

O pudor, principalmente nas classes sociais menos favorecidas, pode retardar a procura do médico pela paciente 1 .…”

“…A lethal squamous carcinoma in the vulva of a 16-year old girl is a rarity (l), but it is useful to be reminded that such rarities d o occur and that the only chance of survival seems to be early radical treatment. Another report related a case of subcutaneous emphysema developing during emergency cesarean section, eventually causing cerebral air cmbolism, successfully treated in a hyperbaric chamber (2). The lesson was that awareness, early recognition and rapid transfer to hyperbaric treatment are essential elements for a good outcome.…”
