Abstract

Different studies in the scientific literature show that adults who have suffered an episode of septic or aseptic meningitis, can present motor and cognitive alterations even after a successful recovery. Neuropsychological rehabilitation has been shown to be effective in improving cognitive functions. The aim of this study is to analyze the differences between the pre-test and post-test evaluation of a single case of iatrogenic bacterial meningitis after lumbar puncture, after ten months of neuropsychological rehabilitation and psychotherapy. The results show a discrete improvement of some altered cognitive abilities and a significant improvement in the anxious and depressive symptomatology. Conclusions: In this study there are positive results about the effects of integral rehabilitation in cognitive functions and emotional state in a case of iatrogenic meningitis. Future studies should include a larger sample and longerterm post-test evaluations.
