Several studies have shown the role of glucose as an indicator of the state of stress in fish due to ectoparasites such as Trichodina , Cryptocaryon , Lernaea cyprinacea , Argulus foliaceus , Ceratothoa oestroides ( Mahasri et al, 2020 ; Fallah et al, 2015 ; Özdemir et al, 2016 ). In spite of the extended use of glucose as a common stress indicator, undefined and uncontrolled variables which may alter the response in the secretion of glucose must be considered, such as nutritional status, life stage, time since the last feeding, maturation or effects of swimming.…”

Unraveling the host-parasite interaction: immune response in Oreochromis mossambicus to Cymothoa eremita (Isopoda, Cymothoidae) infection

“…However, increased respiratory burst activity has been observed in the Scopthalmus maximus infected with Enteromyxum scophthalmi and Labeo rohita infected with Dactylogyrus catlaius(Sitja-Bobadilla et al 2006; Dash et al 2012) which might be due to their histozoic nature and smaller size respectively facilitating the host defense. Similarly, an increased myeloperoxidase activity was observed in Diplodus puntazzo infected with Enteromyxum leei(Muoz et al 2007;Özdemir et al 2016). However, no signi cant changes in myeloperoxidase activity were observed in the Dactylogyrus catlaius infected Labeo rohita(Dash et al 2012) suggesting that the parasite that feeds on host circulatory uids might not able to be eliminated by the host oxidative defense.Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are the best characterized, among the functionally different groups of Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) which stimulate innate immune functions such as cytokine generation, cell differentiation, formation of reactive nitrogen and oxidative radicals, cell differentiation and also trigger intracellular signal transduction in in ammation, antiviral responses and dendritic cell maturation (Alvarez-Pellitero 2008; Aoki and Hirono 2006).…”
