Abstract: A 58-year-old woman underwent surgery for a pelvic mass. Palliative resection was performed despite the presence of multiple retroperitoneal lymph nodes. All pathology specimens exhibited an adenocarcinomatous component associated with carcinoid proliferation related to an appendicular tumor leading to the diagnosis of appendicular adenocarcinoid with ovarian, peritoneal, and nodal metastases. The patient's general status worsened rapidly with widespread nodal metastasis. Chemotherapy (Folfox 4 regimen) was gi… Show more

“…In a review of surgeries performed on patients with a GCC, a simple appendectomy was performed in 24.57% of the cases and right hemicolectomy in 34.7% of the cases [ 7 ]. The treatment modality for a GCC with peritoneal seeding is also controversial, but recent reports advocate cytoreductive surgery (CRS) followed by intraperitoneal chemotherapy [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 ]. Our patient initially showed a peritoneal cancer index (PCI) of 30, and he showed completeness of cytoreduction of CC2.…”

“…These tumors are generally considered to be refractory to 5-FU-based chemotherapy. However, there is at least one case report of a patient with metastatic adenocarcinoid (histological features of both adenocarcinoma and carcinoid) demonstrating a complete and persistent response to FOLFOX-4 [6]. There is also a case report of a patient with hybrid histology (features of both disseminated peritoneal adenomucinosis and peritoneal mucinous carcinomatosis) and pseudomyxoma peritonei, previously treated with cytoreduction and intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy, demonstrating an objective response to capecitabine [7].…”
