Abstract-Semiconductive nanoparticles of bacteria as Bacillus subtilis with catalyst MgFe2O4 biofilm was synthesized by using solution combustion technique. The process was convenient, environment friendly and efficient method. Materials were characterized by TG/DTA, XRD, and TEM. Thick biofilm of Bacillus subtilis MgFe2O4 was measured by exposing it to reducing economical gases. It was found that the Bacillus subtilis was sensors exhibited various sensing responses to these gases at different operating temperature. The sensor exhibited a fast response and a good recovery. The biofilm can be used as a new type of gas-sensing material which has a high sensitivity and good selectivity to various gases at low ppm.

The thermal decomposition of freeze-dried nickel(II)-iron(III) formate was investigated by means of DTA, TG, mass spectrometry and X-ray powder diffractometry. For the preparation of homogeneous freeze-dried nickel(II)-iron(III) formate precursors, a rigorous control of nickel ion concentration in the precursor solution was required. The decomposition of the reactive nickel(II)-iron(III) formate does not only reflect aspects of single formates, but also an interaction between components which lowers the decomposition temperature. Crystalline nickel ferrite powders were obtained at 600-800°C. This temperature is quite lower than 1100°C employed for the ceramic method. In the presence of air, the regeneration of nickel ferrite from the taenite phase (γNi,Fe) is accomplished at 800°C. This temperature is also 300°C below the temperature employed when the mixtures NiO:α-Fe 2 O 3 or Ni:2Fe are the starting powders. The main reason for the high reactivity of the freeze-dried formates and the taenite alloy is the large homogeneity of these precursors.

The ferrite system, Ni 1−x Zn x Ga 0.5 Fe 1.5 O 4 (x ranges from 0.0 to 0.5 in steps of 0.1), has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction technique. Single-phase cubic spinel structure was confirmed with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) results. The effect of introducing zinc in the unit cell on the electrical properties was investigated in the ranges 10 2 -10 5 Hz and 300-600 K of frequency and temperature, respectively. Semiconducting behavior over all studied ranges of frequency and temperature was observed. This behavior is attributed to the cation-anion-cation interaction, which is most predominant at B-sites in these samples. Variation of the universal exponents with temperature indicates the presence of a correlated barrier hopping (CBH) mechanism. The determined transition temperature T C was found to decrease with increasing the compositional parameter x.
