Abstract

The current work deals with the morphological analysis of the occlusal surface of the cheek teeth of several Anchitherium species from 8 Aragonian localities, most of them from the Madrid basin. This analysis is based in predefined land-marks on the occlusal surface of the teeth, located on the main cusps, and their comparison among the different species, in order to test if there are significant differences in the disposition of cusps. This kind of study had not been previously realised with large herbivores, thus being a first approximation to the use of this methodology in this group.
