“…(2) Tissues were stained with 1% toluidine blue instead of hematoxylin. [ 19 ] As toluidine blue is a quick biological stain for nuclei, we could greatly reduce the time of exposure to the environment and minimize the damage to ion channels expressed in the membrane and cytoplasm. (3) Sections were dehydrated in alcohol diluted with RNase-free water and then incubated further,[ 20 ] so that the laser-microdissected endometrium could be detached from the coated glass slides rapidly.…”

“…Remodeling of the extracellular matrix to facilitate trophoblast invasion requires a delicate balance between tissue degradation and restoration, mediated by CG-regulated MMPs [19, 2325] and LIF [2628]. The expression of LIF is mediated upstream by prokinectin which is also regulated by hCG [29].…”

“…MMP-7, a metalloproteinase shown to be present in the glandular epithelium and known to degrade ECM proteins like proteoglycans, fibronectin, elastin, and casein, has been shown to be suppressed by progesterone in humans thus promoting preservation and cellular differentiation of the endometrium (Osteen et al , 2003). On the other hand, CG up-regulates the expression of MMP-7 in both baboons and humans (Rodgers et al , 1994; Sherwin et al , 2007; Yanaihara et al , 2004), thus being able to overcome the inhibitory effect of progesterone that is seen during the menstrual cycle.…”
