[16,17] Generally, by the partial oxidation of the heat-treated carbon coils, the amorphous part, grain boundary, or highly stressed parts of the heat-treated carbon coils are more easily oxidized than the bulk graphite layers, and thus an apparent development and a regular orientation of the graphite layers can be clearly observed. Accordingly, the as-grown carbon nanocoils obtained with Au and Ni/Au catalysts were heat treated at 2500 C, in a N 2 atmosphere for 8 h.
