Abstract: The frequency of fungal spores in the air of three different sections of a rural bakery was analyzed using a Burkard personal slide sampler and Andersen two stage viable sampler. In average concentration of spores (No./m3) was 228-26770/m3 and concentration of viable colony forming units (CFU/m3) was 65-2061 CFU/m3. Dominant fungus species both culturable and nonculturable, were species of Aspergillus and Penicillium, Cladosporium sp., Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Cladosporium … Show more

“…Alternaria is most predominant in dry weather (summer), as observed by other workers in other parts of the world. 28,34 In occupational environments such as the bakery and sugar industry, definite sources of fungal growth are present, even then seasonal patterns in fungal concentration have been reported, 13,35 which indicates that patients are definitely exposed to fungi according to their seasonality. Therefore, it becomes important to include seasonal variations in fungi in any study model because the concentration of any fungi taken at one time can not be representative of the level throughout the year.…”

“…6,9,10 In India little is known about the distribution of fungi inside the homes where people spend 12–16 hours daily, although quantitative prevalence of fungi in occupational sites have been studied. 1113 The present study was aimed to examine the spectrum and concentration of airborne fungal flora inside and in the immediate vicinity of the homes of asthmatic children in the Delhi metropolis and to investigate the seasonal distributions of dominant fungi using standardized volumetric methods.…”

“…Skin prick test (SPT) was performed according to the ethics of the hospital with our supplied fungal allergen extract, along with other standard allergens. The antigenic crude extract (1:10 w/v) was prepared from the individual dominant culturable fungi of the study area [4,65]. Phosphate buffer saline (PBS-0.01M, pH 7.2) and histamine diphosphate (1 mg mL −1 ) were taken as negative and positive controls, respectively.…”
