The present paper deals with the pollen diversity study of some allergenically significant plants of rural belt of Birbhum district of West Bengal and construction of pollination calendar to determine the occurrence of allergenic pollen grains in the surrounding atmosphere. A total of 34 highly allergenic plant species belonging to 22 families were recorded and their pollen morphological characters were critically examined. Among the 11 different apertural types tricolporate type showed their dominance over other types. Exine sculpturing pattern varies from psilate to reticulate type. A pollen key has also been prepared on the basis of the examined traits which serve as an easy identification tool for the allergenic pollen grains from palynotaxonomic point of view.

Σκοπός της διατριβής ήταν (α) η ανάπτυξη κατάλληλης μεθοδολογίας ανίχνευσης και ταυτοποίησης γύρης σε περιβαλλοντικά δείγματα με εφαρμογή μοριακών προσεγγίσεων και (β) η εφαρμογή αυτής της μεθοδολογίας για την ανίχνευση χωρικών και χρονικών προτύπων της αερομεταφερόμενης γύρης σε μια υψομετρική διαβάθμιση και τη διερεύνηση της δυνατότητας να χρησιμοποιηθεί η προσέγγιση metabarcoding για την βιοπαρακολούθηση των αλλαγών της βλάστησης. Αναπτύχθηκε κατάλληλο πρωτόκολλο επεξεργασίας δειγμάτων διαφορετικού τύπου και πολυπλοκότητας προς απομόνωση του DNA γύρης, χρησιμοποιήθηκαν οι μέθοδοι αλληλούχισης Sanger και νέας γενιάς (NGS) και συγκρίθηκαν τα αποτελέσματα που προέκυψαν με τα προερχόμενα από την κλασική μέθοδο ταυτοποίησης γύρης με μικροσκόπιο. Το πρωτόκολλο αυτό σε συνδυασμό με τη μέθοδο NGS εφαρμόστηκε σε περιβαλλοντικά δείγματα από έξι οικοτόπους των Ιταλικών Άλπεων (εθνικό πάρκο Paneveggio–Pale di San Martino) ενώ κατασκευάστηκε μια τοπική βάση δεδομένων με αλληλουχίες DNA για τα taxa γύρης της περιοχής. Παρέχοντας υψηλής ανάλυσης αποτελέσματα, η προσέγγιση metabarcoding μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί για εκτίμηση της φυτικής βιοποικιλότητας και για την παρακολούθηση αλλαγών στη βλάστησης, κυρίως αυτών που αφορούν στη σύνθεση παρά στην αφθονία των ειδών.

Southwest China is an important biodiversity hotspot. The interactions among the complex topography, climate change, and ecological factors in the dry‐hot valley areas in southwest China may have profoundly affected the genetic structure of plant species in this region. In this study, we determined the effects of the Tanaka Line on genetic variation in the wild Bombax ceiba tree in southwest China. We sampled 224 individuals from 17 populations throughout the dry‐hot valley regions. Six polymorphic expressed sequence tag–simple sequence repeat primers were employed to sequence the PCR products using the first‐generation Sanger technique. The analysis based on population genetics suggested that B. ceiba exhibited a high level of gene diversity (H E: 0.2377–0.4775; I: 0.3997–0.7848). The 17 populations were divided into two groups by cluster analysis, which corresponded to geographic characters on each side of the Tanaka Line. In addition, a Mantel test indicated that the phylogeographic structure among the populations could be fitted to the isolation‐by‐distance model (r 2 = .2553, p < .001). A barrier test indicated that there were obstacles among populations and between the two groups due to complex terrain isolation and geographic heterogeneity. We inferred that the Tanaka Line might have promoted the intraspecific phylogeographic subdivision and divergence of B. ceiba. These results provide new insights into the effects of the Tanaka Line on genetic isolation and population differentiation of plant species in southwest China.
