“…Their structures were studied by X‐ray diffraction (Figure 1) on suitable single crystals obtained by slow diffusion of a methanol solution of Na 2 [Mo 6 I 8 (MeO) 6 ] into diethyl ether and slow diffusion of dichloromethane solutions of 1 and 2 into cyclohexane. The apical ligands are coordinated through the methoxy oxygen in Na 2 [Mo 6 I 8 (MeO) 6 ] (Figure S4 in the Supporting Information) and through one of the oxygen atoms of the carboxylate in 1 and 2 , which is the common binding mode observed in [Mo 6 X 8 (R–COO) 6 ] 2– complexes (X = Cl, Br and I) 11,13,22. Average Mo–Mo, Mo–I i , and Mo–O a intramolecular distances and bond angles in 1 and 2 are similar to those reported for ( n Bu 4 N) 2 [Mo 6 I 8 (CF 3 COO) 6 ] and ( n Bu 4 N) 2 [Mo 6 I 8 (C 3 F 7 COO) 6 ] 11,23.…”

“…Compounds 1-4 and 6 were prepared according to previously published procedures. 1,4,12,13 All chemicals were obtained from Sigma-Aldrich and used as received. The solvents used for synthesis were dried and degassed by standard methods.…”

“…Complexes 1-4 and 6 were prepared, purified, and characterised by previously described methods. 1,4,12,13 Complex 5 was obtained by substituting the apical bromine ligands on 2 with trifluoroacetate moieties using Ag(CF 3 COO) in dichloromethane. Because 5 has not been previously characterized, its structure was confirmed by X-ray diffraction of single-crystals obtained from gas diffusion of pentane into a concentrated solution of 5 in dichloromethane.…”

“…The direct incorporation of inorganic species in the polymer has to be circumvented because strong interactions between the organic and inorganic entities constituting the hybrid materials are pre-requisite to obtain fully homogeneous and stable hybrid material [56,57]. The common methodology is based on the covalent grafting of up to six polymerizable units in apical positions of the inorganic cluster core [58][59][60][61][62][63][64].…”
