Abstract: The human breast cancer cell line MCF7 does not express heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP), a marker protein for differentiated mammary gland. MCF7 cells transfected with the bovine H-FABP cDNA expressed the corresponding protein and were characterized by growth inhibition and lower tumorgenicity in nude mice [22]. By enzyme linked immunoassay we now determined the amount of bovine H-FABP in these cells as 638 +/- 80 ng/mg protein and used the transfected cells to study the role of H-FABP in fatty … Show more

“…It is worth noting that the content of certain proteins (e.g. proteoglycans, elastic fibres-associated proteins [ 104 , 112 ], proteins involved in lipids metabolism [ [179] , [180] , [181] , [182] ]) was decreased in hDFs by + MMC treatment, whilst this effect was almost negligible in hTC cultures. Intriguingly, whilst under -MMC conditions, the content of these proteins was higher in hDFs than in hTCs, under + MMC conditions such differences no longer existed; MMC therefore may help balancing the levels of certain proteins between cultures of both cell types.…”

“…Overexpression bovine FABP3 in the non-secretory bovine mammary epithelial cell line, MAC-T, did not influence cellular fatty acid composition (Stamey and Corl, unpublished results). The human breast cancer cell line MCF7 does not express FABP3 and overexpression of FABP3 in MCF7 cells increased uptake of radioactively labeled palmitate and oleate, but other changes in fatty acid metabolism were not observed [ 79 ]. Kadegowda et al [ 80 ] reported FABP3 expression increased in MAC-T cells when treated with rosiglitazone to activate proliferator activated receptor-γ and palmitate or stearate.…”

“…Liver FABP (L-FABP) is a new prognostic factor for hepatic resection of colorectal cancer metastases, FABP-6 7 is also overexpressed in colorectal cancer, and the overexpression of FABP-7 8 correlates with basal-like subtype of breast cancer. There have been studies on the fatty acid metabolism in human breast cancer cells (MCF7) transfected with heart-type FABP (H-FABP) 9 and the role of sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c 10 in the regulation of fatty acid synthase expression in breast cancer. Li and Huang et al 11 carried out a prognostic evaluation of epidermal FABP and calcyphosine, two proteins implicated in endometrial cancer using a proteomic approach.…”
