9  Halogens and noble gases

Abstract: This year's highlights in halogen chemistry revolve around bromine-the discovery of a 2-D bromine-based network points to catenation on a scale previously seen only for iodine, and the first example of a bromane has been reported. For the noble gases many new compounds have been prepared, most significantly, a stable, isolable, alkynylxenon(II) compound, and the first example of a mercuryxenon complex. Whilst using the matrix isolation technique the first organic molecule containing krypton has been generated.
