82‐5: Late‐News Paper: Three Dimensionally Stretchable AMOLED Display for Freeform Displays

Abstract: In this work, we report the 14.1-inch stretchable active-matrix organic light-emitting diodes (AMOLED) display, featuring multi curvatures which allowed convex or concave type. There were lots of technological innovations such as a unique pixel structure, fabrication on patterned stretchable substrate, and three dimensional forming process. Regardless of its promising potentials, they still have several remaining issues which should be resolved in the near future. In this paper, we will discuss on several stra… Show more

“…In order to make our stretchable displays compatible with existing flat panel display manufacturing process, opening structure in panel was selected. Also, a patterned opening process whic is similar to the ancient paper-cutting technology was applied, which makes a rigid film easier to deform [1,2,3] . In addition, the design of symmetric structural elements and modulus transition zone allows a better stretchability [4] .…”

“…Jo very high modulus that hampers the shape from extending nor shrinking. To make matters worse, the rigidity of the conductors and thin film transistors (TFT's) cannot simply catch up the strains that such panels have to take [4][5][6].…”

“…Stretchable light‐emitting devices (LEDs) are expected to pave the way for a novel form‐factor of the next‐generation display, beyond the flat panel displays. Stretchable LEDs can extend the applicable areas of display by shaping onto arbitrary surfaces [ 1,2 ] or by enabling a novel type of wearable displays, such as a textile display [ 3 ] or a contact lens display. [ 4 ] Enabling technologies of stretchable LEDs can be categorized into two types: material‐based approach and geometric approach.…”
