8-Alkylcoumarins from the Fruits of Cnidium monnieri Protect against Hydrogen Peroxide Induced Oxidative Stress Damage

Abstract: Three new 8-alkylcoumarins, 7-O-methylphellodenol-B (1), 7-methoxy-8-(3-methyl-2,3-epoxy-1-oxobutyl)chromen-2-one (2), and 3′-O-methylvaginol (3), together with seven known compounds (4–10) were isolated from the fruits of Cnidium monnieri. Their structures were determined by detailed analysis of spectroscopic data and comparison with the data of known analogues. All the isolates were evaluated the cytoprotective activity by MTS cell proliferation assay and the results showed that all the three new 8-alkylcoum… Show more

“…According to previous studies, most of the bioactivity were linked with the presence of Chromones, coumarins and monoterpenoids in C. monnieri fruits. In our previous research, phenolic glycosides have been identified from C. monnieri (Figure ) Chemical structures of the compounds were identified in C. monnieri fruits as cnidioside A (1), cnidioside B (2), picraquassioside A (3), methylpicraquassioside A (4), picraquassioside B (5), methylpicraquassioside B (6) xanthotoxol‐8b‐glucoside (7), 5‐methoxy‐xanthotoxol‐8‐b‐glucoside (8), 8‐methoxy‐xanthotoxol‐5‐b‐glucoside (9) and marmesinin (10).…”

“…It has been used for the treatment of impotence, frigidity, pain in female genitalia, asthma, cough, fungal infection and dermatitis from the ancient time . To date, a number of chemical compounds have been isolated and identified from this plant, these being mainly coumarins such as osthole, imperatorin, bergapten, isopimpinellin, xanthotoxol, xanthotoxin; cnidimonal and cnidimarin; glucosides; sesquiterpenes and so on . Moreover, both in‐vivo and in‐vitro experiments have demonstrated that C. monnieri exhibits a diverse set of potent anti‐allergic, antidermatophytic, anti‐osteoporotic anti‐adipogenic, antibacterial and antifungal activity .…”

“…The Cnidium monnieri source was identical to [36], and the purification method is described in [37], with a purity >98% as determined by HPLC, as described before [38]. OST forms a crystal of a light yellow color at room temperature.…”

“…This study was carried to evaluate the synergistic effects of diverse molecules showing bioactivity using whole fruit instead of purified components. In fact, bioactivity was linked to chromones, coumarins, monoterpenoids, and phenolic glycosides [63,64,65,66,67,68,69].…”
