71‐4: Uniformity Study on High Resolution OLED Display Fabricated by Ink Jet Printing Process

Abstract: In this work, the emission uniformity from the pixels in an OLED display fabricated by ink jet printing was studied. First, the process parameters such as vacuum dry speed and vacuum dry temperature were controlled. Second, a new pixel fusion design was used to improve uniformity. The pixel resolution in our study was 167ppi, which met the requirement for automotive vehicle application. We demonstrated that the film quality of produced from ink jet printing can meet the demand of commercial products.

“…Using a comparatively large nozzle diameter of 60 µm, we halved the drop size of our 4 pl inkjet head to 20 µm drop size. This would already be sufficient for printing with 200 ppi, which is to our knowledge currently the highest resolution achieved by inkjet printing [1,7]. Using smaller nozzle diameters that are still large enough for high-viscosity inks of active organic polymer materials, further improvements in resolution are expected.…”

“…Furthermore, uniformity study of the pixel arrangement designs on high resolution IJP OLED were discussed on P. Y. Chen et al to address which pixel arrrangement design is suitable for better uniformaity and OLED performance. [6] To realize middle size application, a high resolution OLED panel is necessary. Because of high resolution panel, top emission OLED structure is required to increase the pixel aperture ratio, lifetime and color gamut.…”

“…Barrier layer the printing intervals. [5] Any tiny variation of these features may lead to the ink volume difference between pixels, then the pixel uniformity get worse and the ink-jet printing mura occurs. The droplet watch system is used to observe the droplet volume, velocity and jetting angle before panel printing.…”
