6d superconformal Cardy formulas

Abstract: We study the superconformal index of 6d SCFTs from their ’t Hooft anomalies. In the Cardy limit where the angular momenta on S5 are large, we show that the leading free energy, as well as a few subleading corrections, can be computed from the 6d anomaly polynomials. Our large N free energy accounts for the entropy of supersymmetric black holes in dual AdS7.

“…In the 6d SCFT side, the evidence of N 3 scaling has been found in various observables, including the BPS string junction [7], the vacuum Casimir energy on S 5 [8][9][10][11][12] and the 6d anomalies [13][14][15][16]. More direct evidence from the supersymmetric index itself was studied in Σ g 1 × Σ g 2 × T 2 [17], R 4 × T 2 [18,19] and S 5 × S 1 [20]. However, compared to the N 3/2 scaling of M2-branes [21,22], the microscopic understanding of N 3 degrees of freedom from 6d SCFTs needs further illustrations.…”

“…However, it was pointed out that turning on the imaginary part of the chemical potentials can partially obstruct the (−1) F cancellation, and the macroscopic free energy can be obtained from the index [26]. Furthermore, with the complexified chemical potentials, the Cardy limit of the superconformal indices account for the entropy of the dual AdS black holes in various dimensions [20,[27][28][29][30][31].…”
