67Ga-SPECT/CT with a hybrid system in the clinical management of lymphoma

Abstract: SPECT/CT hybrid system is able to provide information not obtained by SPECT alone. It allows the anatomical localisation of lymphoma and physiological radiopharmaceutical uptake, facilitates the diagnosis of tumours located in the abdomen (subdiaphragmatic lesions) and provides information that may cause a change in therapeutic strategy.

“…Notably, a marked discrepancy in favor of Ga-67 was observed in cases with the lymphocyte-rich HL sub-type. As regards NHL, depreotide was inferior to Ga-67 in most cases of aggressive lymphomas; although most of the gallium-avid lesions were detected, the degree of uptake was considerably lower ( 3,4). This was also true in the few T-cell NHL patients included in the present study.…”

“…As regards functional imaging, Gallium-67 citrate scintigraphy has been applied for many years and has a documented value [2]. Although co-registered fusion imaging by the use of hybrid systems may provide additional information and enhance sensitivity [3], suboptimal Ga-67 physical and imaging characteristics make it less attractive. Recently, has been progressively supplanted by F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET), which overcomes some of its limitations, while sharing its tumor viability characteristics [4].…”

“…Single photon emission computed tomography with integrated low-dose computed tomography (SPECT/ CT) technology has evolved, and recent case reports or articles have mentioned the accurate location of some tumors or lymph nodes using SPECT/CT. [6][7][8][9] Lymphoscintigraphy with SPECT/CT is expected to indicate accurately the location of the radionuclide. We report a case of chylothorax that appeared 2 months after childbirth.…”

“…Numerous preliminary studies have demonstrated that image fusion is clinically useful through its ability to improve diagnostic accuracy and reporter confidence in many conditions, such as lymphoma (1), melanoma (2), infection (3), parathyroid tumor (4), endocrine neoplasm (5,6), breast cancer (7), and bone disease (8,9).…”
