Abstract:Pacemaker therapy is applied as a temporary means with external batteries or as a permanent one after implantation of an electronic device. The temporary pacemaker is indicated in emergency cases like Stokes-Adams attack, acute cardiac arrest, and reversible severe bradycardia. The cardiac pacemaker is also used in the treatment of certain tachycardias based on a reentry mechanism to terminate or prevent them. A permanent pacemaker is mandatory in symptomatic patients.
