Abstract: Introduction Frequent assessments of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity allow timely adaptation of therapy, which is essential in preventing disease progression. However, values of acute phase reactants (APRs) are needed to calculate current composite activity indices, such as the Disease Activity Score (DAS)28, the DAS28-CRP (i.e. the DAS28 using C-reactive protein instead of erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and the Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI). We hypothesized that APRs make limited contri… Show more

“…Of note, tender and swollen joint counts were chosen for this trial because these are commonly used in phase III studies of PsA. Newer measures such as the Simplified Disease Activity Index 18 and the Clinical Disease Activity Index 19 have not been used in this setting to date and therefore were not considered appropriate.…”

“…The RAPID‐3 covers a combination of physical function, pain, and patient's global health status estimate; it is scored on a scale of 0–30 8. The CDAI incorporates data both from the clinician and the patient without the need for laboratory values 11. It includes the swollen joint count (of 28 joints), tender joint count (of 28 joints), and the patient's and physician's global health status estimates (scored 0–10 on a visual analog scale).…”

“…Clinical assessments included the DAS28‐ESR 13, CDAI 14, Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI) 15, tender joint count (TJC), and swollen joint count (SJC). The response according to the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) criteria 16 was also determined.…”
