60CO ?-radiolysis of N,N-dimethylformamide

Abstract: The chemical changes resulting fom the 6OCo pirradiation of pure DMF and solutions of ferric chloride, acrylonitrile or ferric chloride+acrylonitrile in DMF have been investigated. The distribution of the radiolysis products, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane and dimethylamine, suggest that fission of the carbonyl-nitrogen and nitrogen-methyl bonds are the most probable reactions. G(-FeC13) has a maximum value of 12-4 rt 1.0. EXPERIMENTAL MATERIALSMay and Baker reagent-grade DMF was purified by being stirred … Show more

“…20,25 EPR studies also suggested that radicals 3 and 6 were not generated in radiolysis of DMF, 23,26 while H 2 NCO • was observed in radiolysis of formamide. 27 This is surprising, as cross recombination products traced to radical 3 were observed in product analyses.…”

“…The radiolysis of N, N, dimethyl formamide (DMF) under the γ-ray irradiation is shown by the chemical formula 1 below [37]. The DMF is protophylic aprotic solvent and a slightly weaker base.…”
