In the recent past, with the ubiquitous adoption of smartphones and tablets, there has been an exponential increase in data rate demands which has become increasingly challenging for network operators to support. This trend is expected to continue in future, with the advent of high-performance gaming and increasing appetite for immersive applications and social media experiences. Such factors have contributed to the development of the fifth generation (5G) of mobile networks, which would be supporting significantly higher data rates with improved reliability and latency. 5G has also enabled the deployment of wireless virtual reality applications, with wide-ranging use cases. In this work, we consider the key challenges for broadcasting such content to a large number of audience thereby enabling new disruptions in mass media consumption. The technology potential and practical constraints for such deployments were also evaluated using realistic network settings. Based on the performance evaluations, it was shown that with slightly higher system bandwidth requirements, VR broadcast can be supported under ideal conditions, using 5G millimeter wave small cell networks. Potential areas for future work in order to make VR broadcast a reality is also discussed.

V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) evolution over cellular networks has been an excelling topic with the advances of high throughput and low latency LTE networks, and the introduction of 5G networks. According to recent researches, obtaining acceptable End-to-End (E2E) delay has been a challenging design process since data travels through several steps from the originating source to the data center and vice versa. V2X latency comprises mainly of three levels: source processing, cellular network, and data center processing. Delay reduction can be achieved on the three levels. However, many conventional solutions have not reached the required and acceptable range of latency to enable V2X communication over cellular networks. In this paper, a general review of challenges to make V2X feasible on cellular network has been discussed, and the proposed solutions in the literature has been introduced. As a conclusion, a various types of aiding tools to design and test V2X tools are given, so that a right path should be taken to consider challenges and improving design metrics.

We investigate the throughput performance of multiconnectivity over Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets). Specifically, we examine the effect of non-ideal backhaul on the throughput for two architecture scenarios, namely: i) The distributed HetNet scenario where the multi-connectivity anchor is co-located with the macro cell; ii) the cloud-based HetNet scenario, where the multi-connectivity anchor point is located at a centralized network point. An extensive set of simulations is conducted, followed by an investigation of the effect of the backhaul latency, packet file size and offered load on the throughput. It is shown that the cloud-based HetNet architecture leads to a superior throughput performance than that of the distributed architecture. Moreover, it is shown that the backhaul delay considerably affects the overall throughput for both architecture options.
