5G Connected Autonomous Vehicle Acceptance: The Mediating Effect of Trust in the Technology Acceptance Model

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors that influence the behavioural intention towards 5G connected autonomous vehicle (CAV) adoption and to examine the mediating effect of trust between the factors and public acceptance. This research has adopted the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework. To test the hypotheses, 211 participants in Malaysia were surveyed through an online questionnaire. The results were tested using PLS-SEM. Th… Show more

“…However, perceived value is not shown to be a significant mediator between system factors and the adoption of AVs. A possible explanation is that system factors are more associated with trust of AVs (Chan and Lee, 2021 ) while UTAUT factors are more associated with the perceived value of AVs. In the future, researchers can explore other mediators to more deeply investigate the relationship between system factors and adoption of AVs.…”

“…This analysis considered only perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness to see the user's actual usage of 5G technology. Where in a previous study (Akbari et al, 2020;Chan & Lee, 2021;Han & Zhang, 2020), additional factors like perceived enjoyment, perceived personal innovations, perceived skills readiness, etc. The sample size is smaller and is only focused on the engineering students at Gannon University.…”
