Diagnosis of atrophic body gastritis in Chinese patients by measuring serum pepsinogen

“…A number of serologic markers have been described, such as pepsinogen I (PGI), pepsinogen II (PGII) and IgG antibodies against Helicobacter pylori. 1,4 Many studies have been done in Europe and Japan, 4–9 but because of potential ethnic, dietary, environmental and disease differences, the use of serum pepsinogen (PG) screening requires local validation 8 . There are no data available in China on the serologic PG concentrations in patients with AG, so we decided to use serum PG as the biomarker in the development of a novel noninvasive test, verified by endoscopy and biopsy, as the first option for a screening test for AG in Chinese patients.…”
