“…They show that there may be a relation between the CT scan patterns and the pneumonitis severity. This relation is in line with the results presented by Naidoo and colleagues at the 2015 European Cancer Congress (10). Although further research should be done, CT scan images may help us not only to diagnose but also to classify pneumonitis cases and to guide our therapeutic approach.…”

“…Radiological abnormalities can be variable but are often focal and very different from the diffuse pneumonitis associated with targeted agents such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (Figure ). A review of 653 patients with various cancers who received an anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 monoclonal antibody, either alone or in combination, found 36 cases (6%) of pneumonitis . Five distinct radiologic subtypes were identified: cryptogenic obstructive pneumonia (COP)‐like, ground‐glass opacities, hypersensitivity type, interstitial type, and pneumonitis not otherwise specified.…”

“…Immune‐related pneumonitis, which is defined as a focal or diffuse inflammation of the lung parenchyma, is one of the few potentially life‐threatening irAEs. It occurs more commonly in patients with lung cancer than with other malignancies . Prior thoracic radiotherapy and preexisting chronic lung disease—especially interstitial lung disease, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease—may increase the risk .…”

“…Of note, in one of the original studies of nivolumab in multiple tumor types, pneumonitis led to three treatment‐related deaths . Patients may present with symptoms of shortness of breath and cough most commonly, and several radiologic subtypes of anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1‐associated pneumonitis have been described …”
