5-Ferrocenylmethyl-2,2-dimethyl-5-(prop-2-ynyl)-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione

Abstract: The title compound, [Fe(C5H5)(C15H15O4)], was obtained by hydrogenation and subsequent alkylation of 5-ferrocenylmethylene-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione. Apart from C—H...O=C hydrogen bonds, C[triple-bond]C—H...π interactions forming crosswise chains of the molecules are observed in the crystal structure.

“…In a recent attempt to combine two of our long-standing interests, ferrocene derivatives [1][2][3] were combined with fluoroponytailed [4] aromatics, in order to obtain compounds with unique solubility [5] and phase affinity [6] profiles. For this goal two complementary systems were conceived, the ionic surfactant (E)-1-ferrocenyl-2-(1-(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl) -4-pyridiniumyl)ethylene hexafluorophosphate (3) as well as (4-perfluorooctylphenyl)ferrocene (5), which both could be obtained in crystalline form.…”
