45.2: Invited Paper: Extremely High Performance White OLEDs for Lighting

Abstract: High performance all phosphorescent white devices with single unit and two‐unit structures on a light outcoupling substrate were investigated. The single unit device showed high efficacy of 87 lm/W with a half decay lifetime of 10,000 h at the luminance of 1,000 cd/m2. The two‐unit device realized also high efficacy of 83 lm/W with much improved lifetime of over 100,000 h.

“…2. All-phosphorescent white OLED on the BLES has realized high efficacy of about 85 lm/W and quite long half-decay lifetime of over 100,000 h at 1,000 cd/m 2 [3,4]. In terms of efficiency, commercialized OLED has already exceeded that of incandescent bulb.…”

“…Schematic of the color coordinates of three primary colors (light blue, green and red) and of white are depicted in Figure 8. The position of blue emissive layer in OLED device was optically, electrically and experimentally investigated and determined to be between a green emissive layer and an electron transport layer [13]. Thus, the device structure was anode / HIL / HTL / red emissive layer / green emissive layer / blue emissive layer / ETL / EIL / cathode.…”

“…Key technology for high efficacy, long lifetime and high luminance is light extraction enhancement technology from OLED devices. We also have developed highly efficient originally designed built-up light extraction substrate (BLES) which is composed of high refractive index materials and unique optical structures [7][8][9]. By the combination with carefully designed OLEDs, BLES realized quite high performance OLEDs with high efficacy, long lifetime and high CRI simultaneously.…”
