Abstract:BackgroundMannitol is considered the gold standard hyperosmolar agent to decrease intracranial pressure (ICP) after traumatic brain injury. However, solutions of mannitol may crystallise when exposed to low temperatures, for example at high altitude or during helicopter rescues.
