3D rampart-based dual-band metamaterial absorber with wide-incident-angle stability

Abstract: We propose a dual-band metamaterial absorber (MA) based on a stereo resonant structure. The unit cell of the proposed MA is composed of double metallic rings with a rampart on each ring into a dielectric substrate. In contrast to the conventional plane resonator, our proposed metamaterial exhibits wider incident angle stability. The power loss density distribution shows that the standing ramparts play a key role in enhancing the electromagnetic wave absorption. Experimental results verify the wide-incident-ang… Show more

“…Recently, three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is usually used in MMA fabrication, but it is not suitable for the manufacture of flexible absorbers due to the bad mechanical flexibility of the 3D structure. [5,6] Fortunately, more additive manufacturing methods such as template printing and spraying can be used for the manufacture of flexible MMA. Especially, using screen-printing technology, single-layer or multi-layer absorbers can be fabricated on different flexible substrates, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), polyimide (PI), and so forth.…”

“…For some scenarios that need to shield frequency signals inside multiple operating frequency bands, dual-band absorbers have drawn increased attention [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. Two perfect absorption peaks at 16.6 GHz and 24.4 GHz were obtained by using rotated symmetrical quad-petal structure [18].…”

“…polarization converters [22] super-lenses [23,24], bolometers [25,26], invisibility cloaks [27][28][29], perfect absorbers/reflectors [30][31][32][33], and military applications [34]. In particular, the so-called metamaterial perfect absorbers (MPAs) have been developed intensively for optoelectronic applications such as stealth technology [35,36], thermal emission [37][38][39], spatial light modulation [40], THz identification tags [41], sensing [42,43] and thermal imaging [44], since the first smallsized MPAs by Landy et al [30].…”
