Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aims to establish a low-altitude transportation system that operates safely and efficiently to mitigate the increasing ground traffic congestion in densely populated areas. Various aircraft types, including Passenger Aerial Vehicles (PAV) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), will be used to provide UAM services. In this context, a large number of aircraft are expected to operate in close proximity to each other, leading to challenges in terms of communication throughput and interference. To address these challenges, this paper examines UAM communication requirements and the potential applications of cellular networks in the relevant flight environments. UAM wireless connectivity performance is analyzed focusing on co-channel interference and mathematical expressions for the Probability of Coverage (PoC) are derived using stochastic geometry. Based on these premises, the improvements in PoC attainable 0000-0000 © 2022 IEEE using interference mitigation techniques such as Frequency Reuse (FR) and Separation Distance (SD) are investigated.Then, a PoC enhancement algorithm is presented using a combined FR-SD method. Numerical verification case studies are performed in representative conditions, showing that the proposed method is able to mitigate co-channel interference, significantly reducing computational time and increasing spectrum efficiency.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have seen remarkable improvements in their flight capabilities and computational power. Their applications span various domains, such as agriculture, military, and communications. To improve communication quality and coverage in UAV-enabled systems, understanding effective placement techniques is crucial. While research has explored optimal UAV placement in two dimensions, there is a need for a comprehensive three-dimensional (3D) analysis, particularly for resource optimization. This article presents a systematic mapping study on 3D placement in UAV-enabled communication systems, incorporating a threat analysis for the reliability of the results. It provides valuable insights for future research on 3D placement optimization techniques, specifically examining optimization objectives, model system features, problem types, and solution strategies. Our research reveals, on one hand, an emphasis on optimizing data rate throughput, power transmission, and ground coverage, and a predominant use of large-scale fading in the air-to-ground channel model; on the other hand, heuristic algorithms prevail as the solution strategy. Moreover, we identify gaps in achieving critical objectives such as the probability of outage, deployment costs, quality of experience, and spectrum optimization. This highlights the need for further exploration in the formulation aspects of the system, which includes small-scale fading, access techniques, and interference management.

Internet of Things technologies use many sensors combined with wireless networks for cyber-physical systems in various applications. Mobility is an essential characteristic for many objects that use sensors. In mobile sensor networks, the availability of communication channels is crucial, especially for mission-critical applications. This article presents models for analyzing the availability of sensor services in a wireless network with aerial base station placement (ABSP), considering the real conditions for using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The studied system uses a UAV-assisted mobile edge computing architecture, including ABSP and a ground station for restoring the energy capacity of the UAVs, to maintain the availability of interaction with the sensors. The architecture includes a fleet of additional replacement UAVs to ensure continuous communication coverage for the sensor network during the charging period of the air-based station UAVs. Analytical expressions were obtained to determine the availability of sensor services in the system studied.
