3D-based buccal augmentation for ideal prosthetic implant alignment—an optimized method and report on 7 cases with pronounced buccal concavities

Abstract: Objectives Screw-retained restoration of implants is advantageous for biological and esthetic reasons. Due to buccal concavities, however, this preferred type of restoration can only be used in about half of the anterior indications. Based on case series, an optimized method for the treatment of such indications is to be described; the clinical reliability is to be ascertained by means of measurements (before and after augmentation) and assigned to the current literature. … Show more

“…As documented in case series and feasibility studies, customized bone regeneration (CBR) offers several advantages over traditional ridge augmentation techniques [3,4]. Key advantages of CBR include improved accuracy and predictability of the augmentation result as the stable scaffold facilitates three-dimensional augmentation and helps to maintain the required space, improving the esthetics and function of the final restoration [5,6].…”

“…In patients who present critical concavities of the vestibular bone, virtual bone volume augmentation and customized titanium mesh fabrication through 3D-printing technology showed a notable bone augmentation (after 6 months 3.7 mm SD ± 0.59 and after 12 months 4.3 mm (SD ± 0.83) [54].…”

“…The Cochrane Collaborati included in this review (Table S4 (Supplementary Materials). The studies were from four categories: controlled intervention studies [43,44], before-after (Pre-Post) studies with no control group [45], observational cohort studies [46][47][48][49][50][51], and case series/case report studies [52][53][54][55][56][57].…”

“…16 Alveolar ridge defects can be described by the Cologne Classification of Alveolar Ridge Defects (CCARD), which distinguishes between mild (up to 4 mm), moderate (4 to 8 mm), and significant (over 8 mm) atrophy for horizontal, vertical, or combined alveolar ridge defects (Figure 1). 40 Apart from alveolar distraction osteogenesis (ADO), guided bone regeneration (GBR) or autogenic bone grafts (ABG) are primarily described for medium and large alveolar defects of maxilla and mandibula. 17 The posterior region of the atrophic maxilla plays a special role in terms of defect classification and augmentation technique:…”
